Promise FastTrack TX2000 Raid Controller and SME 6?
« on: August 10, 2004, 11:21:31 PM »
Anybody know if this Promise Raid Controller will work with SME 6.0.1-01? I want to use it for Raid-1. There is support for various versions of Linux but I don't know enough about SME to tell if it will work on the SME implementation.
Thanks

You have it under "Environment" where it say Redhat 7.x.

SME is an RedHat 7.3 based distro.

Thanks Mat. So you are saying that if I plug the Promise card into a PCI slot SME will see the card and install the necessary software to interface the card to SME or do I have to set up something?

Well not realy, the 2.6 kernel has built in support for the promise controllers, but thats not the one that is used in SME.

I haven't tried it myself but this should fix it.

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/html_single/Linux-Promise-RAID1-HOWTO.html#modinstall

or section 2.2 in
http://www.infocopter.com/know-how/PROMISE_FastTrak_Linux_Driver_RedHat.htm

And the Promise web of course.

Thanks matsk for the info. Thats a great help. I decided to take a closer look at my HD setup and found that my primary HD was not set up properly in the PC BIOS and was seen as Mode 0 not the actual mode 4 it really is. I fixed that and now software Raid-1 is not so bad. I think for the time being I'll stay with that and get better performing system board and hard drives.
