What version ofesmith is the best for VPN and must be able to run Fetchmail too?

I run it fine on the latest version of 6.
I use it to connect my laptop to my server from anywhere.

Never had any problems with all the versions.
I have and use it now with 5.6, 6.0 and 6.01 with no problems.

I run the current release and have frequent 619 error problems.  There seems to be a great divide in that some people have no problem and others do.  I don't think there's been enough investigation as to why some have a problem.  I suspect it is how some use it. I suspect those that have no problem mostly attach to their SME sites from one location. I, on the other hand, spend time at many sites (some with and without SME) and attempt to VPN in any of 3 site that I have running SME.  Sometimes I get thru, shome time I don't.  This is purely conjecture. From what I've read, those that use ver 5 have had fewer problems.  My 2 cents.

It has worked well all along, and there hasn't been much work done on it, aside from the upgraded rpm's - and the inclusion of the multilink parameter since xp came along.

But there are 2 things
1. 619 errors mean bad user/password, but also this can come from slow, or bad or saturated connections - eg. if someone on your network has blaster virus, you will get this.

2. the biggest issue I have is multilink with xp. I have two servers identical versions of sme - i can only communicate with one with multilink on, the other I can only use with multilink on. You have to be prepared to play with this.

VPN - PPTP connected more reliably with w2k as the client.
