I don't know if contributers rea all forums or stick to one at a time. I appologise in advance for this post if this is the case.

I am trying to use Remote Desktop to access Terminal Services on the Work server. I have tried using the direct IP address of the server as well as its internet name.

I am refused connection. If I plug my Redhat 9.0 server back into the broadband I can connect with out any trouble.

Does any body know what I need to do to set SME server to allow me to use TS. I assume that it is the firewall stopping me. I have downloaded the firewall manager but do not know what to set to allow TS which runs on port 3389.

Thanks

Martin

Set portforwarding in server-manger (sme 6) to port forward 3389 to the internal IP of your TS server....

I have tried Port Forwarding on 3389 and in the firewall rules opened Port 3389.

I still cannot get the terminal services to work.

If I route the ADSL via a Redhat 9.0 box I can use TS. There is another setting needed by the firewall but I do not know what it is.

Hi Ryan,

Prompted by you suggestion I turned on Port forwarding and open port 3389. No Luck.

I then did a bit more investigating including ipconfig on my win2000 box.

Guess what! the gateway address came up as 192.168.42.2 , which I thought was a bit strange as the SME server is providing DHCP. 192.168.42.2 was the gateway address of the Redhat server. I checked and DHCP for Redhat was turned off. I then checked the settings on win2000 and found that the gateway was hard coded at , you guessed it 192.168.42.2.

I removed the gateway address and did a renew on ipconfig.

Tried TS and it worked. Removed port forwrding and open port and it still works.

No wonder I was not getting many replies. Slight case of imcompetance!

Everything is now working except my ftp to my ISP that are hosting my website at the moment. Guess I will have to mess with the ftp rules now.

Thanks for your suggestions.
