Hi there
I'm pretty new to SME server, having just installed it yesterday and I'm having a few problems with accessing the internet on client machines. Here's my setup :
SME6.01 machine - setup as server and gateway, and dialing up via an ISDN connection to my ISP. I don't want to use the server as an email or news server, just as a gateway to the internet and for file and printer serving. The three client machines are all running WinXP Home, with Service Pack 2 installed.
All the machines can see each other fine, and all of the client machines can browse the web (with Mozilla Firefox) without any problem. The trouble is that they can't do anything else. When I try to get email (using Thunderbird POP client) they just time out.
I can ping the mail server (ISP's own POP server) from the SME server machine with no trouble, but the client machines time out. This happens if I try to ping the server with either its domain name or IP address. I get the same problem when trying to use usenet, messenger programs, ftp etc.
I'm sure it's something reasonably straightforward, but I've been searching on the forums for hours now, and haven't found anything that I can see as relevant.
Thanks in advance for any help,
David
