Topic: Network Shared Printer : problem to access 1 time / 2

hello!

i keep having problems accessing my printer via my microsoft "workgroup" network.

configuration: DELL PowerEdge 2200 server with a HP DJ350 printer (LPT0). SME server 5.6.

the printer is shared and visible on the network. we can print occasionally but never consecutively.

the problem seemed to have disappeared six months ago with the installation of the SME server 5.6. but ever since i completely changed my hardware recently, it has reappeared. (the old server had not been modified. basic installation.)

PLEASE HELP! thank you very much in avance.

I don't want to use SME 6.0.1 now because it's have too much bugs for me. I'm waiting for few times before have a suffcient confidence in, because there are a lot of changes from SME 5.6 wich works perfectly (for my needs) about security access. If you have informations about bugs, security whole, etc... for SME 5.6 and SME 6.0.1, I'll take a look/comparaison.

What is cups exactly ?

You are worried about bugs but not about security !
Best you update to v6.0.1 to avoid getting hacked, that may even fix your printing problem without needing to install the CUPS contrib.
The printing problem you have with v5.6 was a known issue with no simple resolution, it affected some users and not others.

Sorry about CUPS because, I'm verry verry tired now. I collection stupid problems with my informatic (impossible to install Linux Red Hat 6.1 or Mandrake 10 on my HP VL6 computer or my second DELL server.
Now, my Work Station using an AMD TBird 800MHz is dead (Power Supply....)

Ok, I try SME 6.0.1 on my second DELL server.
May be, 3 other clics to obtain help about Samba and how to configure a roaming profiles on my µ$ workgroup LAN.
