The unix/linux IT guy at my university who is installing a server box for me to support a project for high school students has been unable to solve dependency issues wrt installing Legato's Networker into SME 6.01 for conducting scheduled backups. Does anyone have any insights into what issues need to be resolved to install this piece of backup software?? Any help would be appreciated (and, I've supplied as much info wrt problems as he has provided me).

Good to know a fellow UNB member interested in SME. Although I have not worked with that backup software feel free to contact me. My company is in the enterprise UNB building. We are a new networking company and deploy and support SME 6.01 among other things. Information about our company should be on the web site soon. We will help you out for free if you like. Just get a hold of Brenda Moxon and ask for the new computer repair/networking company.

Ya. Thanks for the offer of help. It's David Lancaster from ITS who'll give you a buzz on this. I'm a "novice" myself with this having installed my first linux server a year ago...using SME of course (I know a good thing when I see it). It has some real strengths for me (and I don't doubt that I don't even know about some of them), especially security-wise, but also some frustrations in how different it is from other linux releases. Sometimes I've spent days and days trying to get things working on it (like, hmmm, imagemagick for instance) with no success. Sometimes contribs has been helpful, a lot of times not....so I can see a real market for you supporting it out there. Looking forward to meeting you someday....I was gonna wander around Enterprise UNB one day to see what was going on, now I have a reason to.

Stop by any time and I will show you around our facilities.  I need to talk to someone from ITS as I need them to add us to their mailing list for network outages. So it will work out perfect. Have had a few scares when they bring down the university network without telling us. Remote monitoring software tends to get excited.

Have fin with SME it is still the best web based destroy out there in my opinion. It is also a great solution for schools. If you ever need assistance or support we are willing to discuss donating it.
Just look in the phone book under D&D Vision Networking.
