Topic: upgrade ahrd drive howto?

Hello,
   I run SME as my personal mail server and would like to upgrade to a larger hard drive while minimizing downtime.  Does anyone have a good procedure for this?  I searched the forum for upgrade hard drive, replace hard drive without any good results.  I tried to follow the howto at http://www.storm.ca/~yan/Hard-Disk-Upgrade.html
but ended up with a drive that wouldn't boot (locked up after LI).  The only variation I had was that my new drive was hdc instead of hdb, but I adjusted accordingly.

 Would the following work?

1)Add new drive as second drive.
2)Create/format /boot swap / partitions on new disk per howto above on live system.
3)Use rsync instead of cp to populate new partitions on live system.
4)Switch to single user mode and rsync again (to catch new mail/etc).
5)Power down, switch drives, power up.

Or would I need to updated the lilo config per the howto?

I've done this:
- added second drive (secondary master / slave)
- booted from dos (or does Partition magic this also)
- used Partition magic 6.0 to copy disk
- used partition magic to extend data-partition
- switched disks

If something fails, just swap the disks back, no harm done.
