Unable to join (register) SME v6 domain
« on: September 22, 2004, 11:56:37 AM »
Hi there !

I re-installed a brand new SME server in v6 (previously in v5.6), after a RAID 1 crash (1 drive dead).
I made win2kSP4 PCs moved to workgroup "W". Internet's working on PCs, DNS too. Now I try to register PCs to SME domain, with admin+password : windowns says "domain not valid or doesn't exist"

Please ideas ?

Additional stuffs :
I tried with another SME v5.6 server : OK, PC in domain
Back to workgroup, I tried to rename SMEv6 domain, change IP, read logs : unable to join domain

' get somewhat fed up today

Thanks
Bouana

Hi,

Did you do an upgrade or an install?
If you did an upgrade, all your machines should still be in the domain.

Just for kicks,
  1.  Un-join the domain.
  2.  Change the name of the PC
  3.  Reboot PC
  4.  Join the domain

smb.conf not changed when changing domain name

Hi there again !

The day after...

I finally looked in /etc/smb.conf and /etc/samba/smb.conf  : the workgroup name was wrong !!!
Even if I change many times the configuration with admin console, the workgroup name stays the same.

I had to change manually in /etc/smb.conf and /etc/samba/smb.conf and ... it works fine. At last.
But I know it's not a good thing, since I have to use templates (I can't understand these bloody templates !)
Any HowTo for bloody dummies about that ???

Thank you for explanations about admin console behaviour !!!!!
