Outlook, Netscape to e-smith
« on: October 07, 2004, 02:29:59 PM »
Hello -

I am about to unleash a new e-smith email server at the library where I work.

Our staff has been using an ungodly mix of netscape, outlook, hotmail, yahoo, etc... I are trying to standardize the email to just e-smith's webmail.

The problem is the library staff is going to scream bloody murder if I can't get their contacts and saved email from their desktop client software available on the server via webmail.

Are there any howto's on this? Has anybody else faced this problem?

Thanks!

Mark

I have seen webmail having an option to import address books from outlook but only after using the update script: http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Latest%20version%20of%20update%20scripts

For saved Mail: don't know.

For the email you could create an imap account in the users mail client and copy the mail across.
This should work for hotmail if you use the http account in outlook express then add an imap account connected to your server.
Same for all the other pop clients.
Not sure about the yahoo mail though as I've never used it.
Infact having a quick look on yahoo shows that they will let you pop but you need to subscribe to their yahoo delivers service

Hi,
You can get pop3 access to yahoo using yahooPOPS, it works on Windows, Linux, Solaris and Mac platforms.
Download it from it here: http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/
