Hey all,

I'm Garret from Ruffdogs (used to be know as "Little bark, Big byte" around here), we handled the site migration to the new hosting facility. There were a number of items that gave us a hard time but we've got most of them hammered out. With that said, I am also aware that there are some issues remaining. I just wanted you to know that the emails ARE making their way to us and we are working on them.

Also, we will do our best to communicate with each of you as you have or find issues, and we will email you with notification of corrections, or with follow-up questions.

Thanks, and nice to be involved with this community again.

Hi garret,

Where are the temp pages we do, Wellsi RonM and I?
Take a look at this post:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=23159.0

All the links to wiki pages are broken! Where is the job we do?

Did we do it for nothing?
Did we spend all this time for NOTHING?

Yes i feel ....  :-(

Don't panic, nothing has been "wipped out" so your time has certainly not been wasted. As I said, there were a number of  difficult issues involved in this migration, many of which I am unable to go into, but the wiki has certainly been among them.

The emails just made their way to us yeaterday so it will take just a little bit for us to get through them. I have scheduled up to three developers to work on this site and related issues today, so we should start seeing alot of fixes early this morning GMT -7.

Thanks for your patience and feedback!!

Hi Muzo - the original phpWiki had a 'feature' where URLs of the form "blahblah/index.php?pagename=pagename" could be recast as "blahblah/index.php/pagename", I guess to make them frendly to search engines. This nonstandard functionality did not survive the migration.

So, if instead of using, say
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/French%20documentation

change it to
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php?pagename=French%20documentation
and it works fine. I guess I'm going to need to go through all the Howtos and fix any of the old style URLs.

I'm looking forward to getting the FAQs posted and finish up your suggested changes to the documentation page. I hope we can get the teams formed up soon ;-)

If you could do that it would be great RonM, it's "feature" that is giving us the hardest time.

Thanks

Muzo - no big deal :-) Nobody likes to see their work wasted. Good thing it wasn't!

Garret - sure, will do. Now that I think about it, there are probably not very many malformed URLs out there, as we tended to use wikilinks, and most of the howtos themselves are almost all outside the wiki and linked in with absolute URLs.

More problematic will be the proposed and admin pages we made recently in an attempt to rekindle some activity on the website (like Muzo's pages). I think I remember where they all are (sheesh!-)so I'll try and look at those also.

hmmm... looks like we may have another issue, with search this time. In the howtos, we put a few "stored searches" for extra info. These "search URLs" now return a blank page

Old URL
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?action=search2&search=Onstream+DI30

New URL for the same search:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?action=search2&search=Onstream+DI30

If I take the Old URL and change it from action=showall to action=results, it seems to work fine. Should I go ahead and do this?

OK, I went through the Howto topic pages - there weren't very many malformed URLS. There may be a couple of bad links on the howto pages themselves, but I don't think so - they look ok.

Tomorrow, I'll do the new stuff.

The contribs link on this page http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php?pagename=Howto%20and%20contribs
is still showing the bad link.

Also, I'm going to start a thread for "bad links" to helpfully organize this hunt a little better, as I have seen some other also, just can't find them now.

Thanks!

Good idea! I'll be happy to fix anything listed there (or folks can fix it themselves - anyone can edit most of the pages on this site). I got a bunch of the ones on the regular pages on Fri - some of the ones you saw may be gone.

hi stevet - thanks for posting! Unfortunately, I need to know the page where you found the link. I did a searck for that url and found only your post ;-) The SMEonCentos page is fine, and living at

http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php?pagename=SMEonCentos%20HowTo

I guess I should also point out that I can only edit wiki pages - I don't have access to edit News items or other people's forum posts, etc.

Ron

Like stevet I've experienced stuff like that too...

This 404 comes up when you try to search for something that's in the wiki...
Just put "Centos" in the search box and you will be sent to:
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/SMEonCentos%20HowTo

instead of the current/correct:

http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php?pagename=SMEonCentos%20HowTo

...ALL THE SAME STUFF that you mentioned already

Happy chasing

hey Garret - for me the search box in the upper left is returning all items in the index.php/pagename form. Can someone confirm?
This would be more of a configuration issue.

OK, I believe I've nailed all the old links - at least, a site search on "index.php/"

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?action=search2&search=index.php%2F&andor=AND&mids%5B%5D=8&action=results&submit=Search

returns only InterWikiMap, a list of shortcut to link mappings to connect to other wikis

http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php?pagename=InterWikiMap

I believe a look at the search config is in order both for the link returns and for the search urls
