Trying to print from Win XP to a USB printer on SME Server 6.
Error:sme-server Access denied, unable to connect
Win XP-Pro SP-2
SME Server-Only-6.0.1-01
HPLJ 4 printer with a parallel to usb cable connection
Followed Robert van den Aker's How to install CUPS? version:20040131.0 step by step.
Checked for install with rpm -qa to list all installed rpm's and all seven of the CUPS rpms for version SME 6.0 were listed.
Setup the printer with the CUPS Print Server Manager and selected the correct HP 4 Linux driver.
I can do a "rpm --help | lp -d printer-name" and it prints the listing properly.
In Win XP the printer is listed in the Printers and Faxes panel but the status is "Access denied, unable to connect.
I can set it up for Windows and select the correct Windows driver.
No errors in /var/log/cups/error.log or
access.log.
I tried: lpadmin -d hplj4 -u allow:all (that didn't change anything)
The printer is shared in XP.
The user has a valid and the same XP and SME login name and password.
I did a
http://server-name:631/ and that brought up the Print Server Manager GUI.
I googled and found several references to the same problem in various Linus distributions but no answers to the problem. Can anyone help me out here?
