ddclient updates ok, but ports are not accessible.
« on: November 11, 2004, 02:08:41 AM »
Hi All,

I am currently running SME6.0.1. It happily runs ddclient which successfully updates my custom dns (dyndns.org) at both reboot and cable modem disconnect/reconnect.

My problem is that after disconnect/reconnect, the server becomes unaccessable from the internet. At reboot it is fine. I am able to ping the server using both domain name and IP with no problems, but I am unable to ssh into it, or access the website. I am getting a "connection timeout" on both ssh and website access.

The connection out seems fine as I am still logged into IRC from home and can /ping & /whois my nickname from work.

Any ideas about what it could be? I am thinking it may be because the firewall or gateway function has not updated to the new IP. Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers,
Simon

If you disconnect and reconnect than the ddclient will not stop and start and so will not update the IP number.

After a reboot the ddclient is started and so your hostname.dyndns.org will be updated with the new IP number.
To SSH into it you need to enable SSH access from the internet (see the server-manager).
Are you using a DSL-modem or a DSL-router?
If you have a DSL-router you need to setup forward rules .
