how to rebuild account info?
« on: December 08, 2004, 07:48:47 AM »
Hi, i am some a realy newbi to sme servers... and need help.

From an desktop backup (6.0.1-01) , i have restored the file to a new fresh instalation (6.0.1-01), but all the users are gone from the server-manager. They are working fine with IMAP/POP and webmail, but the web interface say's they are no users in the system, so i can't change quotas or even restore passwords.
All account info is lost.

Is there a way to rebuild the info?

I looked into the backup file, and there is no folder named account. I only find the contents of /etc/passwd,/etc/shadow, and they are restored fine and so /home/e-smith/files/users/(
[users folders]/& all the mail stuff.

The problem is that when i try to create the user again it's says that a system account exist with the same name. I'dont want to lost my users mail stuff, and of course don't wont change all user's(287) passwords.

It read about something similar of a bug reported in a early version, but i can't find a step by step solution, only say's that is a bug and it was fixed...

thanx

No, it's the same browser and the browser has nothing to do with the data of the server, it's just a client. (All the cookies and cache data were wiped out after the problem was detected, of course :D )

I tried with Lynx too (Root Console), and the same happened.

Sounds to me that you have to restore the file /home/e-smith/accounts from your backup. I do not know whether that file is included in a desktop backup.
