If you find you are having problems writing profiles and slow user logoff it may be related to applications not closing properly. To find out if you are affected by this check the Application event log on either Windows 2000, Windows 2003 or XP and look for event 1000, 1517 or 1524 from source "Userenv". After some research we have found that installing the User Profile Hive Cleanup Utility fixes these problems. You can read the full MS article here:
