Topic: SME Server Hardware and Software Upgrade

Howdy All!!

I got a newer Server (Rackmount, more everything, etc).  I installed SME 6.0101010101 (the newest download) on it.  My old server is running SME 6.0. with a Postnuke site and sql database and all my email.

Here's my question..  If I do the automated backup to my desktop (approx 1GB), can I then restore it to the new server and have everything work ok?  Must I ensure the IP addresses and system name are the same or will it change it for me or stay different?

Any advice is always greatly appreciated!!

This has been discussed numerous times with diffrent results. I strongly recommend to do some searchings here like "restore desktop" and have a good read.

You can, however, simply try it out. Most probably is will work but NOT everything. IP adresses and system names can be identical if you switch the oder box off when restoring to the newer one.

I have not tried it out but others have and posted here. Go searching. Don't blame me if it breaks.
