Anyone interested in a HOWTO for no username/password?

Here are the smb.conf template files you have to copy to templates-custom and what you have to change.  If there's enough interest I will write up a proper HOWTO.

11guestOK (should be "yes")
11mapToGuest (should be "bad user")
10globals (add "null passwords = yes")
50printers (change to "guest ok = yes")

Do this and you won't have to enter SME usernames/passwords & enforce them among the users.  Of course, this completely defeats the point of using usernames & passwords, but heck, it's your network.

You can still enforce security in specific ibays by using groups.

Hi, was talking about this just over a month ago, but went away to uni and didn't get time to fiddle around with it.

just to confirm. this only effects pc's in a lan trying to connect, passwords for wan access will still be active?

As my SME server is being used as a file/web server at home (3 pc's max) file security is not currently an issue for me, so i would be glad of a HowTo.

Many Thanks
