Domain logon problems wit SME server
« on: December 29, 2004, 02:03:46 PM »
I've installed SMEserver 6 and would like to use Windows xp professional to logon to a domain.  No problems logging on to SME server workgroup, but xp will not logon to SME server domain.  The same computer logs on to a Win 2000 server domain with no probs.  I've read that xp registry tweaks may be necessary to do this with SME server - is this correct?

Thanks

SME emulates an NT 4 domain - not an Active Directory domain. If you set it up to try to connect to an NT domain you should be ok. XP wants AD, but for SME it has to settle for NT.

Good luck!

Thanks Rob - I'll try this later.

Incidentally, I have the same problem as you in that Win xp prof also asks for user/password before a connection to a mapped drive can be established.
I look forward to seeing any responses to your question.

Not sure what you've tried with the drive mapping, but when you map the share, try clicking on "Connect using a different user name" when XP asks what drive letter to use. Specify the username and password and click ok. Make sure "Reconnect at logon" is checked and hit Finish.

Supposedly, XP will re-attatch each time you boot and the share will remain mapped. Hope that helps you. :)
