Upgrading from 5.6 with gallery 1.4.3 to 6.0
« on: January 05, 2005, 07:12:05 AM »
I currently have 5.6 installed and want to upgrade to 6.0.  I also have a custom template -- gallery 1.4.3 installed.  I've read in the release notes that you are suppose to remove the custom template (httpd) before upgrading.  Is this correct?  I understand what is required to upgrade -- just not sure how to handle gallery -- don't want to mess it up :-D

New to SME here.  Thank you.

I'm in the same situation but probably won't risk it

I think with a customized 5.6 that the results would be unpredictable at best.  I have many contribs & other things running in ibays but will reluctantly zap them all & recreate on my brand-spanking-new 6.X server ... once I get the hardware & Lycoris provides the software, that is!

In short, you could try it but I don't think I'd trust the resulting system.  You could always clone the hard drive and try the upgrade on the clone, then work to fix what broke & re-clone if necessary.

Upgrading with (photo) gallery installed should be OK. I'm sure I did it & it was OK from 5.6 to 6.0.

You should uninstall any contrib rpms that relate to the firewall as the firewall rules were changed.
You should also uninstall any rpms that are not compatible with v6.x, quite a few rpms were not compatible, search these forums for new releases/compatibility information or just post a list of what you have installed.
Reinstall the newer versions after the upgrade.

As long as any cutomisations and incompatible or firewall related rpms are removed the upgrade should be smooth.

Make sure you do a full backup first as a precaution.

That was more applicable to upgrades from v5.5 to v5.6. From v5.6 to v6.0 should be OK except for incompatible contribs.

There were changes in the email client and folder locations so it is better to do an upgrade rather than a new install and susequent copying data across, some things won't be right.
The upgrade will migrate settings correctly.
