Just read the news.

There are some changes at contribs.org that you should know about...

Due to issues beyond their control, Lycoris is unable to support contribs.org and the SME Server in the manner that we had all hoped.

Looked like a match in heaven.

Oh well such is life, was looking forward to Lycoris input to SME.

Looking at Lycoris greenhouse their staff people we're expecting this announcement yet ... as I said in another post - I've now got an awful sinking feeling about this ...

Pretty simple.  

Just as the Announcement stated, Lycoris was unable to live up to their commitments.  We are moving on without them.  RSI has been sponsoring this site since day one.

As to your "sinking feeling", perhaps you should take some solice in the brand new iso that we (the volunteers at contribs.org) have just produced for your use.

Install it, test it, and report back if you find any bugs.  That's the best way we can all get the most we can from the SME Server and contribs.org.

What ever happened doesn't really matter at this point,
the decision was made and it's a done deal.

Life goes on and hopefully so will SME.

6.5 is here so SME isn't dead yet!

In any event......

Sounds like they used us like a cheap prom date and just dropped us off at our front door without so much as a thanks.

Just my opinion.

Not that it matters, do they still plan to offer a version that can be purchased?  I don't want it, but it would validate my statement above.

Just so my "what the eck just happened", quote doesn't get taken the wrong way...  

I've been a grateful recipient of esmith/SME over the past 3 years and hence I'd like to pass my sincere thanks on to everyone who's worked on it.

Its such a great thing, I'd really be lost if it dissappeared ... hence my interest and concern.

The news was a bit cryptic but, if anything, this announcement looks pretty bad for Lycoris.  Nothing much happened for four months after the original big announcement.  That's a pretty long time in this industry.  

It sounds like they are not able to meet their original commitments from a programmer/resource perspective.  Apparently, they've had some issues with their desktop product (http://www.lycoris.org/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=126)
that may be diverting them from giving SME server their full attention.  Joe Cheek sounds like a pretty forthright guy so I hope he rights the ship.  Let's hope the problems aren't purely financial.

Regardless, it looks like Shad, Charlie, Greg and many others have gone a long way towards giving SME Server a bright future development path with the new 6.5 ISO.   Thanks!

All is good? Lycoris created change by hosting Contribs with talk of more and that change has created motivation which I believed help get the new Contribs ISO online plus the great work over the last few months by the greater SME community with new addons, updates, ETC. Nett Effect for all has been a positive! All should be happy with there input which is keeping this GREAT DISTRO ALIVE
