Cannot access 'admin' mail account via webmail or POP3
« on: January 22, 2005, 11:02:56 AM »
I am unable to access the admin mail account via either Webmail or POP3. Attempts to check mail via either method fail due to timeouts.

This account hasn't been checked in quite some time on this server (SME 6) and could easily contain hundred (if not thousands) of messages. Is there any way of emptying or at least seriously reducing the amount of messages being stored directly on the server itself.

Regards,
Jason.

You can see how much admin mail is waiting by going to home/e-smith/maildir/

The best way to handle admin mail is to forward it to a regular user. Do this in server-manager/Configuration/E-mail - 'Forwarding address for administrative notices'
Check the manual here http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/bobk/SME_Manual/chpt-13.7.html#13.7.2

You can also access admin mail via webmail, if you have webmail activated.

I've temporarily forwarded admin notices to another account and this works fine. I cannot however get into the admin account either via webmail or POP3, both methods timeout without even getting a message list.

Tried looking into home/e-smith/Maildir but cannot get into the ;INBOX folder.

Jason.

The ;INBOX directory is used by IMAP you need to look in the /cur and /new directories to see the mail messages. Undelivered mail will be in the /new directory.

You need to login as root using the admin/root password.
