Recommendations for Desktop Lockdown Software
« on: January 27, 2005, 08:47:42 AM »
Hi All,

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some Winblows software that will quickly easily install
and give me quick click functions to do the following ;

Prevent users installing software
Prevent users modifying desktop
Remove menu items
etc etc

If there is some freeware that woudl do this, that would be great, however if there is some commercial software that outperforms others I have no problem paying for the good stuff.

Thanks !

Run the Windows-built in group policy editor (run "gpedit.msc"), create a group policy and distribute it to the other machines in you network via the/your AD/WINS/whatever server.

This is the wrong forum for that kind of question, don't you mean?

I work at a small public library. We use a combination of windows group policy and a product called Clean Slate by the Fortres Grand company. I could not live without it. Clean slate removes any changes at reboot that a patron might make, and it also removes any spyware/adware too. It is easy to install/configure. I never have to worry about my public PC's. Now, my staff PC's are entirely another matter! They are a mess. I have begun to clean-slate them, too!

They also have another product whose name escapes me right now that locks down the computer and is easier to navigate than windows GP.

Hope this helps -

Mark
