Hi All

I have a strange probem that has cropped up in the last few days.

One user (howes) cannot access Webmail or POP3 from Outcrook Express, however, they can send.

here is a snip from the messages log file:

What was done recently, as in 3 weeks ago:

I had an ibay called howes, deleted that and created a user howes. Could SME have screwed up UID/GID's? (edit-maybe not, as it was working fine until 30/1/05)

I ran the install script from swerts that installs ClamAV, Amavis etc..,  that was on Friday 28th Jan.

The User (Howes) advised me on Sunday 30/1 that he cannot check mail by Webmail or by Outlook.

I tried to login thru POP3 and webmail and get the same error, Could the installation corrupted this user? - ALL other users (8) can check/send email, no problems.

I created another user (howes1) and changed 'howes' to redirect email to 'howes1', but that did not work, something is mighty screwed with 'howes', me think

Service shutdowns and a reboot have not helped any

Is there a way to recreate the user name after deleting it?

Any help with this issue, much appreciated!

Cheers

I have found more info pertaining to deleting user accounts, and have got 'nearly there', but still unable to recreate the user, fully.

I managed to recreate the user, but get same error, I have #'d out the lines in /etc/passwd and /e-smith/accounts relating to that user and tried again

I cannot now seem to get around this error:

cannot add user account, because a system account exists by that name...

How to delete a system account (I SEARCHED!) - and why is a normal user a system account?

This is getting a bit tedious...I have tried a dozen different ways to try and recreate a user (all from the forum) and they all fail or only half do the job, but the underlying error still exists (of which I give up looking for an answer), it (should be) easier to just delete and recreate the account?

Why just this one account, why not the others?

mmmmmmm
