Topic: No NET found! SME 6.5.1 w/optus cable

Guys, i a newbie when it comes to linux/servers.... ive installed SME 6.5.1 and have it mostly setup (ie selected the options for server/gateway, worked out which NIC is out to my LAN and which should be NET)... but i cannot connect to the net under the test option... i got optus cable and wondering what settings i should choose for there configuration? i.e. DCHP, ethernet address or user name identification etc..

Any help appreciated!

Hello matsk,

Just be aware that Optus block both web sever port and mailing ports ... so you won't be able to use your SME box to run your own mail server ... you will have to use there e-mail still ... you can get arround the port 80 block for web server.

I used to be with Optus but left for that reason. And that there just to expensive compared to ADSL these days.

You should be able to setup your connection using the static IP feature as Optus cable is a static IP.
Only if they still use the login and password feature still.

Both web and mail port blocking with Optuscable can be worked around for a price..try www.dyndns.org

I believe the IP address is dynamic and can change.

There is no username/password for login. I believe the MAC of your cable modem gets you in the door.
