Hi I´m using the 6.1 version of the sme server.
Perhaps someone could help me.
I want to add an NTP server but I only got a "bad syntax" warning?????
Which is the right syntax to fill in???

There is a point where you can add a windows startscript.
I´ve got some win XP Home clients, without autologon,
User and PW are the same like on the server.
Perhaps I have a bad syntax ore something else????

I hope someone could help a newbie  :-(

PS
I searched the internet and this forum and the help topics but i didni find anything that could help me.

Greats from Germany
Frank

:-D otoh you may need info how to set it your XP :-D :

Code: [Select]
Windows XP
Windows XP is able to ask for the time of a NTP time server.
No additional software is needed.
The settings can be done in the "system control panel - date/time".

...just enter the name of your server, like in  "mysmeserver.home", in the box and click "update" (or whatever)
(Note: do _not_ enter "time.xxx" !)

Its OK I found out that those NTP I´ve added are down  :-P

I just put the NTP in the config (Server Manager).
So with a startscript all workstations will get the time from the server.

Now I dont have to set up every workstation for an NTP.

Since you reside in Germany why not use:

ptbtime1.ptb.de         - for the SME server

That one is the "official german time"
http://www.ptb.de/de/zeit/uhrzeit.html
which is "unlikely" to let you down ...and

"mysmeserver.home"          - in your XP Workstations (where you do not need a startup script

OK thanks

But I want to use the startscript for the workstations
so they will automaticly get their home and work register.

Thats very difficult  :-?
I never done this before, but if it has to be easy everyone could do this  :hammer:

Frank

Hmmh :-)
- make sure you are xp-user "frank"
- register user frank on sme
http://frankssme.home/server-manager
users
add-user-account

- now (without any startscript whatsoever) there is a home directory for frank in the sme (actually in SME Linux it's /home/e-smith/files/users/frank)
...(only) frank can access it in a common shared windows "Arbeitsgruppe" domain using his name and password when logging into his XP
...frank will be able to see it in "Netzwerkumgebung" as \\frankssme\frank  (in crappy XP-Home you may have to "suchen" or "Arbeitsgruppe anzeigen" "frankssme"
...frank may connect it to a drive right-clicking "Arbeitsplatz" and selecting "Netzlaufwerk verbinden"
- only "frank" with correct "password" will be able to use this (his) "working directory" on the SME - Linux

...basically I'm sure we have a communication problem here ...
(like what is a "work register" ? (use the german term I'll understand 8-) )

Reinhold

P.S.: Since you can read german have a look at:
