Need more space on my server
« on: November 30, 2004, 09:36:44 PM »
All,

My server's been running like a champ!  However, I'm starting to get low on disk space.  I have a 60 GB drive I wish to add.

I want to use this drive for my ibays.  I've attempted a search for information on this but either there isn't any or my searching ability sux here.. ;-)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?  What I think would be easiest would be to add the drive and expand the volume with the Ibays on it onto the new disk.  Does anyone have a how-to for this?

Please advise and thanks!!

Chuckf.

"add harddisk"  in the search box gave me a link to this topic:

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=24154.0

And in that topic is a link to this how-to:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/mblotwijk/HowToGuides/AddExtraHardDisk.htm

what did you say about your searching ability again....  :-D

Thanks.

Thanks!!

I searched it with "add hard disk" with a space and got no return..

Isn't that the problem.. It all comes down to either too much or not enough space...  LOL

I'm trying to use Michiels Howto for the same reason.

But I can't "chown" with root:
[root@domain /]# chown root.allemaal /mnt/video
chown: changing ownership of /mnt/video': Operation not permitted

Root is not a member of "allemaal", should it? If yes, how (not with the server panel and not with /etc/groups)

chown root.root /mnt/video works.

Using SME 6.0

Some ideas?

Thanks, Sjef.

I have a production server that I'm running now with this same situation. I installed two new drives, and mounted one at /home/e-smith/files/users and the other at /home/e-smith/files/ibays.  This maximized space for both the user mail I was hosting (IMAP can be a space-hog,) and the sites I was hosting.

The biggest problem I had was that the uer quotas won't work with this configuration.  This is because SME doesn't support multiple filesystems.  For more info on this, read this thread:

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=24391.msg99399#msg99399

See also this bug report that I started:

I banged my head against the wall for months trying to get this figured out, so at least you have it going into the situation!
