couple of quick Q's

I'm currently evaluating 5.0 for a school and am hoping to recommend they use sme as their server (my background is in microsoft SBS - wish I'd known about e-smith sooner....). However, I've a couple of quick questions:

1) squidGuard is vitally important. I've installed it ok and it works fine (thanks darrell). However, I wish to update to the latest lists of dodgy sites. I downloaded 'blacklists.tar.gz' from www.squidguard.org and it seems to contain a whole pile of .diff files. Can anyone shed any light on what I should do with these ?

2) I really need to nail down internet access through the use of the proxy. Could anyone point me to an (admittedly windows based - sorry) faq re. using policies to stop kids mucking around with proxy settings under '98 ? Or should I be blocking all access to the internet from the LAN except through the proxy ?

Thanks in advance,

Geoff

For 2: Knowing the creative tendencies of School kids, I'd suggest locking down outbound port 80 on the server instead of trying to lock down the clients.

It's not going to put a complete halt on kids accessing things they shouldn't but it should cut down the problem by around 95%.

Luke

Kids are bad, but grownups can be worse... I think you will be happy with the proxying , especially when the ESSG is the only gateway. Good Luck.
