I may be asking SME to do something that it’s not intended to do but… I thought I should ask. I have a Red Hat box configured as a proxy server. It’s set up kind of special because it requires users to log on, before allowing access to websites. This is because we have multiple users using the same PC and I want to be able to monitor where each individual user goes. Then it uses DNS Guardian to prevent access to “questionable websites”. I tried it set up as a proxy server in IE, but we found users can by pass the Proxy settings even when they are a restricted user. I want to use the SME server as the default gateway (that way restricted users can’t change the settings) and use the port forwarding feature to send all port 80 traffic to the proxy server located on the LAN. Problem is it doesn’t seem to work. I guess the question is, should the SME server be able to port forward internally and I guess if so, then why isn’t it working? I am using 6.01
