1 NIC+2 ip's (Server and gateway)
« on: February 26, 2005, 03:35:00 AM »
Here is what I want to do and have already done.

I have...
Sme Server 6 Running as gateway and server

I set the internal address to be 192.168.0.x and the external address to be 69.8.x.x

I only have 1 NIC installed on the box. I can only access one of the ethernet interfaces at a time. It depends on if I switch e0 or e1 around from normal or to switched.

Is it possible for me to run both the local and public interfaces on 1 NIC? Is there a different trick to it?

I am using it as a vpn server.

I just need to know if it's possible to put both the lan and wan (eth0 and eth1) on the same nic. If it's not, just say so.

Just trying to understand the situation.  This is not possible if you are trying to use it as a vpn server.  The setup does not allow for two gateway IPs on the same nic.  I would setup the server as a regular server/gateway.

You can setup the server as a server only setup and use it as a vpn server, but it would give you an IP in the range of the wan address.

Sorry, I guess I don't understand why you would want to do this.
