No internet access from LAN
« on: March 04, 2005, 06:12:56 PM »
Hope someone can send me in the right direction.

1. Server has internet access.
2. Clients can access webmail on server but not traverse though to the internet.
3. When I reboot the server I see :
Mar  4 07:24:00 server masq: /etc/rc7.d/S06masq: /etc/rc.d/init.d/masq: Exec format error
Mar  4 07:24:00 server rc: Starting masq:  failed

Could this be causing the problem and how can I fix it.

Thanks in advance.

I have learned that ot try and hack at a problem can cost you a lot of time. The best solution here is to reinstall your server and take thing one step at a time.

It is important to test the basics functionality before you start installing other rpm's.

Depending on your configuration of your server, it is important to take note of how you have configured internet access times. During the configuration of the server (not through the web interface) you can configure your server to connect to the internet only at certain times.

Hope this will help you to get up and running sooner than later without trying to hack your way through.

Best Regards,

Was this an upgrade?

Because I experienced this exact symptom after upgrading a 5.5 system to 6.01-01 without an intermediate upgrade to 5.6.  I never did find a solution; reformatted & reinstalled from scratch.

Thanks for the responses. The server is still 5.5 and has not been updated, but is in the planning for April, hopefully when 6.5 is released.

After reading other posts it seems that it's not advisable to upgrade directly from 5.5 to higher but first to 5.6.
Is this feasable or would it be beter to copy data and emails over from the old to the new server? (10 users)

One other thing that I have found is the masq file is empty, it looks like the update script is trying to make new ones but does not have the proper rights to rename/move/delete the old file. Any idease on this?
