Goldmine is nice if you need what it does - a good example of some of the database/info mgt work being done these days. Unfortunately, if they have a version for Linux, I couldn't find it on their website - http://www.frontrange.com/index.aspx

Here's their list of system requirements:

S Y S T E M  R E Q U I R E M E N T S
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
• Microsoft Windows 98 (including SE)/Me/2000, Professional, Server and Advanced), XP (Home or Professional), Windows Server™ 2003
• Intel Pentium 166-MHz or higher CPU (Pentium II or higher recommended)
• Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
• 32 MB RAM (64 MB or more recommended)
• 65 MB of available hard disk space (125 MB recommended)
• Palm OS 3.x or higher (optional)

Additional Minimum Requirements for GoldMine 6.5 Corporate Edition
• Microsoft SQL Server (requires Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows 2000 Advanced Server)
• 64 MB RAM (128 MB or more recommended)
• 105 to 290 MB of available hard disk space (500 MB recommended)

Does this mean that goldmine will interact ok with SME Server and allow users to send emails out via it?

To roughly explain the situation My customer is currently running a Windows 2000 Server with a program called Computalynx Cmail (Handles incoming & outgoing mail) They have also brought and installed Goldmine but when they try running the email side from a workstation Cmail lock up and crashes. They have been in touch with Computalynx who say that their software is not compatible with Goldmine. Now I would like to demo & install a SME Server on their site but just wondered if anyone knew if I would have the same problem.

I currently host the GM executible and database files on an SME server. Works fine. In the past I've used the mail server on SME to send and receive email from GM but don't do so anymore. I didn't have a problem, it's just all the users choose to use Outlook as their email client.

To install GM on sme just map a drive to an Ibay and use that directory as the install location. Then map a shortcut to the executible on the SME server at each workstation. You are given the opportunity to install the executible on the workstations from within GM but I didn't bother. Also, when you install it for the first time on each workstation you will get a bde error. This will happen installing it on any server. It will ask you where some file is. It's located in the \goldmine\setup\bdeshare.
