bcc mail going to postmaster only
«

Hi all,
I have a problem with multidrop mail at one of our sites. It seems that if a recipients email address is on a bcc it will not get to that recipient. It goes instead to the postmaster. I have included the email info below.
Any Clues?
Cheers
Peter

I'm having this problem on all of the e-smith servers > 5.1.2 i've installed.
I was thinking that I had another problem because no one reported this problem
all that is not in to or cc seems to be not recognised
anyone?

That's inherent to using multidrop. You'll see the same problem with mailing lists.
The uggly way around it can be found here:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=17294.msg67325#msg67325
That's OK for small networks, although it won't solve your BCC problem, only the mailing lists
The proper solution is to pay more $$ for a connection with a fixed IP and run your own smtp server. Not everything is free, unfortunately

Peter and Luk,
If your service provider hosting your mail domain is willing to add an additional header (eg. X-Delivered-To, etc) you can get SME to sort on this instead of the default. This is how I've gotten around the multidrop limitation if the site(s) involved cannot change to any other means of mail collection.

Thanks Kelvin,
Are you able to provide more specific instructions? I have asked this of my ISP but they plead ignorance (as do I).
I would love some instructions for both the ISP and the server setup, or a link to that information.
Cheers

Hi Peter,
I hate to say this, but if your ISP pleads ignorance, I'd be inclined to look for another ISP !
What sort of connection are you working with, dial-up with dynamic IPs, permanent dial-up, broadband ?

In:
/etc/fetchmail
Comment out the "no dns" line:
# no dns
Add a line with an alias to your ISPs mail server:
aka mail.isp_name.com
This may or may not be the same as the server you connect to for mail retrieval. It is the server in the third "Received:" section from the top in a message header, and the server is after the word "by". This "Received:" line is the last one entirely within your ISPs network. If your ISP uses multiple servers (i.e. mta01.mail.isp_name.com, mta02.mail.isp_name.com, etc.), leave off the "mta0x." part.
You may need to experiment with this to find the right combination. Use a free online email service to send a "BCC:" message to an account on your system.

If this is not business email and you have a permanent / semi-permament connection then consider a DynamicDNS setup and run your server as an SMTP server - you will need to change the DNS of your domain to point accordingly and configure the DynamicDNS client but thats about all. AFAIK DynDNS.org provide a store & forward secondary MX arrangement for a small fee if your ISP won't/can't provide it.
