I don't know if it is an hardware problem of the dat or a configuration problem. Here are some logs:

flexbackup -test-tape-drive gives:
FAILURE! Problem with tape driver or parameters.
Tried to change $blksize, $pad_blocks, or $mt_blksize, turn buffering off, but still got I/O error.

I tried to change parameters but got always the same error.

that's my log error in /var/tail/messages, when i type:

flexbackup -newtape

Could be the SCSI-controller / SCSI-cable or Tape-Drive.

Looks like a hardware problem to me. I'd suspect cables first, then termination, then tape drive or adapter.

I have found this sentence regarding dell and e-smith:
Oh, and we only got the PV100T to work by changing the SCSI setting to "narrow".

Do you know what it means? Have I to change some hardware setting or is a software setting? Have I to enter the bios?

Sorry but i'm quite new to dat.. :-(
