Creating users for different domains other than primary ???
« on: March 18, 2005, 04:29:26 AM »
Hi people,
I've been using SME for sometime now and things were going pretty much alright, till my comany wanted to add another domain. They asked me setup a mail server for it. Now I know I can setup SME for another domain and map our eisting static IP in the dns for the new domain's MX record, but I'm confused on how to create users seperately for that domain. I've added a virtual domain, but when I add a new user I can't tell which domain it will be associated to?!?!?  :-? Any help will be much appreciated.
Thankx

you could buy the vdomain addon from dungog.net, this adds a server manager panel for adding domain accounts.

I think you ment the folowing that you must setup more account's but hey are not alowed to use the main domain name, only the second are third domain you have give in the admin pannel.

I think you can beter use the folowing contrib:

Description:
Title: e-smith-domain_mail_user-0.4-1.noarch.rpm
Author: Van hees Michel
Contributors:
Keywords: mail, resctriction, domain, virtual
SME Releases Supported: 5.6 & 6.0
Problem: You want to restrict email user on one or more domain.
Solution: Install this contrib
HowTo/Instructions:

Just install the contrib and a new panel will be present in the server-manager.

You can download at this link http://vanhees.homeip.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=getit&lid=135

Als install what RayMitchel said because whith that you can use the same e-mail name's for your diferent domain's like info, posmaster, sales, ect.

Good luck

I agree that to fully manage virtual domain email addresses you need to use both the method outlined in the HOWTO, which allows
user1@domain1
user1@domain2 etc

and also to control which names are allowed for which domains you need the mailblocking rpm which is newer & with more features than the rpm mentioned above (it combined the features of 2 other rpms).

http://www.dungog.net/sme/files/index.php
dungog-mailblocking-1.0-4.noarch.rpm

From the dungog.net sme help file

Rejecting and Allowing Mail
The following is provided by the dungog-mailblocking rpm
The rpm adds rules that are run when mail first connects to the mail server and is very efficient
dungog-mailblocking is a rewrite/combination of dmc-mitel-mailrules and e-smith-domain_mail_user
prior data from e-smith-domain_mail_user is used
prior data from dmc-mitel-mailrules is not
features
more selective event allows saves on every rule change
message entry is optional for rejects, is not needed for accepts
link to view relevent log file with preset filters
restrict the group email address as well as users
NB. pseudonyms are allowed the same domains as the user who recieves the mail
