Does anyone have any experience with setting up xerox workcentre laser printers/photocopiers in a completely linux environment?

I've checked on the cups site, and can't find any xerox drivers at all.

Anyone ever tried this?

Thanks in advance.
Rob.

Hey Rob,
do you know if the work center has the ability to run in "emulated" mode? If it does, it will usually be a reduced usage mode, but, it will allow for linux functionality. In many cases that is.
Have you checked on the Xerox site yet?
Is there a specific model number attached to this unit?

Hi!

The model number is: Xerox WorkCentre Pro 128.

According to xerox technical support there are no drivers for use with linux.

I'm looking to use it with redhat 9.

Even in "Emulated" mode, what drivers do i use on the linux workstations?

Thanks,
Rob.

P.S. This is a brand new xerox model, and it doesn't show up on the xerox site yet.

Hey Rob,
yea it looks like Linux and this printer haven't come together yet. Here is a link to a forum: http://www.linuxprinting.org/
or
http://www.linuxprinting.org/xerox-faq.html
might be helpful?
From my own exeperience with Linux, sometimes a little trial and error with different common/popular drivers may allow for basic printing.
Have you tried any drivers? Some of the Xerox printers function by using drivers of previous models. Just a thought.
Good luck.

Hello,

Thanks for all the help, as yet i've not tried any drivers, i was contacted by a xerox installer to try and help him setup one of these for one of my customers.

I'll see if he'll let me do some tests with the copier, and i'll post my results here.

Thanks for all the help Joe!

Hey Rob,
don't know how you made out with the Xerox WPC128. Checked with a friend "in the know" who said there is no native CUPS driver yet. He was told that the windows PPD should work, xrm28ee1.ppd is the file name. And it has been tested with Redhat.
For what it is worth.
Good luck.

Thanks Joe, I'll give that a try!

We're now on a waiting list to receive one of the units, as xerox say there is a 3 to 4 week lead time in the UK.

I'll let you know how i get on once it arrives.

Thanks Again!
Rob.
