I am trying to get SMTP over SSL (465) server access to work. I have created a certificate and set this to public. I change my email settings and I send an email. It goes thru just fine. However, if I close outlook express and reopen it and try to send an email it does not go thru. The only way I have found to make it start working again is to reboot. I am trying to get this to work for at least 20 users, so rebooting every time someone new logs in is not an option. Any ideas.

Hi,
I not wish to sound rude or anything, but change to Thunderbird as your email client, it is a lot more user friendly then OE.

http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

You will find it gives you alot less trouble than OE

The problem is not OE. I tried Thunderbird and I have the same problem. Although, Thunderbird does allow for opening and closing. When I send from multiple accounts on multiple computers, it locks up and requires a reboot.

Try increasing the timeout setting for the Outlooks and rechecking all the settings/ports/accounts/mailserver-settings, lan-settings/annoying hidden settings/settings of properties of settings... I have seen this several times. esp. with outlook express. It is alwas something wrong with the oe configuration or not having some windows updates regarding outlook.

You will need to be more specific concerning the hidden settings and the settings of properties of settings.
I have checked all my other settings, increasing the timeout settings just prolongs the agony. Thunderbird has the same problem. Why would it work for a little while and then quit working?

Regarding the specific settings in OE i cannot be precise because i don't know your network layout.

You should tail -f your maillog log, messages log and ssl-popd/imapd log for further clues.

I found an error message that is coming up in /var/log/httpd/ssl_engine_log. It seems to work with the certificate I created as mail.dalandcorp.com.crt. Then when it fails, the reason it gives is can't connect to www.dalandcorp.com. I created a certificate as www.dalandcorp.com.crt and it worked a few times. Then when it failed, the reason it gives is can't connect to mail.dalandcorp.com. I don't know if this information is helpful or not. I will be able to post the exact messages when I get back in town on Thursday.
