Topic: Firewire for backup

I installed SME 6.5 RC1.
I have an external Firewire disk that I would like to use for backup.
I did not find anything in dmesg to confirm that this disk is detected.
Is it possible to mount an external Firewire disk ?
And if possible... How ?
