User Managment and Administration Tools?

Does anyone know how to do this in esmith? It seems like esmith is really lacking in this area. An example..

esmith as the server/gateway and 5+ users behind the firewall.

Someones Uploading too much bringing the network to a crawl.

No real way to "see" the users and Administrate them through the "Panel" section..

No real way to throttle bandwidth through the server manager. You would think this would be a CRITICAL function of the server manager.?

Do a search on this site brings up random links posted by experienced users telling people to read IPCHAINS HOWTO, IPTABLES, qos and various 10 page master class HOWTO's

Isn't there something you can place in the panel section of the Server - Manager To Administrate USERS without having to edit sensitive areas dealing with the kernel and it's modules?

I gave up trying to figure that out and downloaded IPCOP instead.  It has bandwidth limiting capabilities using WonderShaper.  It doesn't require a huge computer, I run it on a PII 350 with 256MB Ram and a 6.4GB HD.  Just a thought.

There are 2 contribs I'm aware of to do this, they differ slightly in their approach but they both add server manager panels.

If you install them both and read the server manager panels you will see how they work.

I searched & read a lot of posts to find these so you could have too.

Thanks, Let me look at those closer..I removed e-smith and installed IPCOP but I really got used to e-smith so I reinstalled it. IPCOP looked promising though..

I have been told that WonderShaper is good, but no one has integrated it into sme as yet. I gather it will run on sme but may need some tweaking.

It would be good if someone knowledgable enough put together an rpm for sme. Thanks in advance if you do.

Try installing the bandwidth limiting contrib to  limit bandwidth. I installed this on 5.6
Look here.
