SME 5.5 Crashed - Help!
« on: April 14, 2005, 02:50:00 PM »
The Software Raid failed, and in the attempt to bring the server back online I receive the following

An error occurred during the RAID startup
Remounting root filesystem in read/write mode finding dependicens
starting up raid device /dev/md0 invalid argement
/dev/mdo is not a raid0 or linear array
md0 md1 md2

Type in your passowrd for maintenance or type control d for normal start.

Now I have tried fsck -A which repaired a number of errors.

Basically all I want is the data on the box, any cludes on how I can access this?

Thanks in advance.

Just purchased a copy of Knoppix, planning to attempt the retrieval of data later on tonight.

Any tricks, tips etc for this product, Is it just follow your nose?

I recommend to use of knoppix before the fsck -A, as I'm guessing all the yes ended up deleting my ibays, as they didn't appear at all, everything else was there, users etc, but no ibays :-<

The Windows explorer found http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/explore2fs.htm at the same result.

Thanks for your help, start restoring from old backups........

This is also a good simple knoppix recovery guide.
http://www.greenfly.org/talks/knoppix_hacks/rescue.html

Whatever you do, would suggest you get at least 2 images of the disk ASAP (Norton ghost works on 5.5 as does PartImage or even a simple dd) & do your data extraction / any repair work on 1 of the images.
