help updating python on SME 6.0
« on: February 17, 2004, 09:34:06 PM »
I'm trying to use a new CMS, plone 2.0 and it requires Python 2.3.2 or later installed somewhere in the system PATH.

I'm having a major troubles accomplishing this as I haven't found an rpm for SME server and I don't have experience building RPM's.

Any help would be appreciated. This is what I've tried so far...just grabbing at straws: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=147160

You could try Custom RPMS built for RH7.3 from Norlug.

I tried a few of his RPMS and not had any problem (so far anyway   :-) )

Thank you, I didn't realise that page existed. That will save me a lot of trouble.

A How-To upgrade to Python 2.3 has now been added to the Python How-To page.
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Python

I had a quick try at installing Plone 2 but failed on
# rpm -Uvh Plone2-3.0.0-3.rh.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        expat >= 1.95.5 is needed by Plone2-2.0.0-3
        libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3)is needed by Plone2-2.0.0-3

Did you manage to install Plone 2?

I never did get plone 2.0 to work on sme server so I eventually gave up on it and switched to another CMS that was easier to setup on SME.

Which CMS did you install on SME? Is there a how-to or a link to explain install and configuration?

thanks in advance.

Personally I like xoops. It's the same CMS used on contribs.org however there's a lot of nicer ones now.
