Would SME benefit from an AMD 64bit system? Specifically, can it run as a 64bit OS?

I searched, but didn't find anything specifically on point.

.. a little bit of research would find that the base for SME is redhat 7.3 with stock single & multi processor (MP) kernels.

It will run on 32 bit single & MP systems fine.

Without kernel support (at the very least, drivers, etc) it won't run as a 64 bit system.

I use a 533FSB P4 system that runs a hyperthreading CPU so I can use the MP kernel, add 1GB RAM and IDE s/w raid and it zips along very nicely.

I knew it was 7.3, but I didn't know if that was 64bit compatible.

For most stuff, running 32bit is just fine. Most of my sme's are less than 1ghz machines. But, with the 64bit AMD's being so cheap why not use it?

I think maybe sme needs to move that way anyhow, before too long 32 bit will be gone. Heck even M$ is about to release it's 64bit edition.
