My httpd crashes once a day
« on: October 25, 2001, 01:51:27 PM »
Hi everybody,

I'm using sme v5 since 2 months, after an upgrade from version 4.1.2. The server run on a p233 mmx/48 Mo/pppoe on adsl connection/ 4.3 Go Hdd.

I know my provider disconnect me once a day, that is quite usual. The httpd service ( simple httpd such as jukebox, webpages stored and webmail, httpd-manager keeps on working) stopps once a day irremediably, and I have to login and restart it by the hand. It stopps on both interface (wan and lan).

I didn't have this problem under version 4.1.2

Can anyone help me.

I think it's coming from the disconnection/reconnection process that patch the httpd.conf config file with the new IP adress but does not restart httpd. But I'm probably wrong.

The same for me once a day whe my adsl provider force me to diconnect/reconnect to change my IP.

I also have a fresh installation.
Here is a bit of the message log :

Oct 22 14:58:: /etc/e-smith/events/ip-change/S80pptpd-conf49 hal e-smith[15181]: Running event handler
Oct 22 14:58:58 hal httpd-e-smith: httpd shutdown succeeded
Oct 22 14:58:58 hal e-smith-bg: Shutting down http: [   OK   ]^M
Oct 22 14:58:58 hal e-smith-bg: Starting httpd:

a [ OK ] is clearly missing here but the server simply ignore the state of the httpd daemon.

yes... same for me.

So two Questions:
-Why does httpd not restart?
-Why does e-smith does not take it in account?

For the first question, it may be a problem of configuration. If the IP address has changed after disconnection (IP address is written in httpd.conf as a parameter such as server_... something where we usually put your hostname.domain name). That may cause httpd to not restart. (I'm everything but sure...).

The second question may be asked to e-smith developpers.
