911 Backup Job Restore
« on: May 09, 2005, 10:20:01 PM »
Hi,

I was intrigued as to how the 911 backup job would restore so created a VMWare virtual machine and tried the restore. What I noticed was that not everthing was restored and my ibays were missing. On further investigation I also noticed that the users were not there in the server manager.

When I performed the restore, I cut it into CD sized chunks so when restoring, I assumed that it would automatically distinguish between the parts, is this correct or do I have to manually restore the job one part at a time then perform the post upgrade event?

I know this works as I have heard of people using it all the time, I am also currently testing CD recording on this VM to see it it will be feasible to have a writer in my server.

Did I mention that I love SME? :-)

Thanks in advance,

Arthur

The restore process in backup2ws will correctly put all the parts back together without intervention. You MUST run the post restore events, there is a link to select in the backup2ws panel AFTER the restore has completed (make sure it has really finished, you should receive an email to admin or look in /var/log/backup2ws restore.log).

See, that's what I thought but it appeared to only restore part1 and nothing else. Hmmm, very strange.

I have to reinstall the VM tonight so will try again and  see how I get on and let you know.

Cheers,

WOW,

Did a fresh install on the VM last night and a full restore to that machine and hey presto, the whole thing restored perfectly 100%. It seemed this time to sort all the parts out as it went along.

Now I can confidently backup my server and know that it will restore fully. Next step, get CD backups working and I have all the tools I'll ever need to backup/restore my server.

On another note, Ray, I manager to get Sysmon working and it was due to the fact that I never left it long enough to create any data.

Cheers again,

Arthur
