serial port access for control functions
« on: January 26, 2005, 05:38:53 PM »
I would really like to find a way to access the serial port on my SME server from the external network.  I know the world is heading toward embedded Ethernet but there are still devices that are serial port-based that could be accessed from the Internet if such a channel implementation were available.

I have an SME 6.0 setup with unused serial ports.  I want to connect my home-automation system to the serial port and access it from the network.  I would like to be able to ssh to my domain name with a specified port number or https to my domain name with one or two text boxes that represent the transmitted and received data channels on the serial port.  Any other implementation ideas are welcome.

Does anyone know of resources to use the serial ports in the SME server for functions other than serial console?
