Settings won't apply in server manager.
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:32:53 AM »
When I change any setting in Server Manager and apply it the setting does not save. I can go back to the page and check the setting and it has not been applied ie, it is the same as if I never changed it.

So at the moment I can not change anything on my server it is stuck the way it is. :(

Any ideas anyone?

Hi Malakai,
a couple of simple things to check.
1). Do you have cookies enabled on your browser?
2). Do you have scripting turned on in your browser?
3). Have you cleared the cache on the browser?
By the way, could you let us know which browser you normally use.
Hope this helps.

I came across this problem before, the fix was to use something other than opera, for some reason it doesn't seem to work that well with server-manager.
Works fine with Mozilla and IE.
I'm 99% sure that it's the browser that causing your problem.

Hope that helps
cheers

I do use opera mainly  but I only use IE for Server Manager. Both have the problem.

Cookies are enabled.
Scripting? Do you mean java script then yes.
Yes cleared the cache.

Might update IE and see what happens.

Hey Malakai,
yes, I was referring to scripting in general both Java and ASP. I seemed to remember having a similar problem, many moons ago, before I started using mozilla/firefox.

Can you give us a specific example of the changes you are trying to make, that don't stick? I would like to do some testing here with your scenario.
Do you set up the SME Server in the "trusted sites" in the IE options?
Good luck
Joe

Under EMAIL menu I am trying to change POP and IMAP server access from Local network only to access from the internet.

It also occurs when trying to add users.

I just added the server to the trusted sites in IE and it made no difference.

I also tried using firefox and still the same problem, I am starting to think that it is something to do with the server.

I had a problem when I changed the BIOS time setting to the right time. E-smith had a fit and things like the spam filter stopped working because it thought that the log files were last modified in the future. Not possible so obviously caused an error.

Any way, after the actual time caught up with the date stamp of the log files it stopped e-mailing me that error and started telling me that it couldn't write to the log files.

FYI: Under PUTTY an ls command in /var/log/ showed the offending files as RED.

/var/log/boot.log
/var/log/cron
/var/log/maillog
/var/log/messages
/var/log/secure
/var/log/spooler

I couldn't even edit them in PICO or MC.

So deleted them and recreated them.

I have since worked out that the files were just links to the actual log files for each date or something. So you think that this might have something to do with the settings not taking problem?
