Background:
One of my clients has been running on Novell 5 for ages, but the server is getting very old. To augment storage, we put a snap appliance in place, which currently authenticates via the Novell server. They also have an Exchange 2000 server which has a good track record, but probably couldn't handle also being the sole Domain Controller. In order to take the Novell server offline, we need something to manage authentication. (Currently the AD auth for Exchange is maintainted independently of the file server auth.) I would prefer to not bring another Windows Server into the mix.
Question:
Am I correct that I could introduce SME Server as an AD Domain Controller? The Snap Appliance could then authenticate via the SME server, as could the Exchange server. Is there something that I'm overlooking that would make this impossible? or perhaps just a bad idea?
Thanks,
