I was wondering if there is any way to change the way Information Bays are created by default.

If I want to map a share, my only recourse is to map to the IBAY name itself. This presents the end-user (stupid) with: cgi-bin, files, and html.

Again, the end-user (stupid) will simply stare blindly and generate a phone call as to which directory to choose.

Can this be modified?

I just ran a test on my SME V5 server, and created a few i-bays.  Not sure about ESSG 4.1.2, but in V5 if you setup you i-bay with the 2 settings below - you shouldn't get the cgi/files/html folders.

I have tested this further, and you need to upgrade to Samba 2.2.x

I am using W2K Pro clients. If you do not upgrade and map a drive you will see all ROOT folders (cgi/files/html); however if you BROWSE through Network Neighborhood, you only see the desired files folder contents.

I'm running 4.1.xx (with whatever version of samba that comes with it) and win2k workstations, by using 'Add Network Place' you are able to browse e-smith to the folder on the correct i-bay choose the folder that you want and that maps the folder so when you go into 'Network' you will see the folder there.

To get the folder mapped so it shows up in 'My Computer' right click on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Map Network Drive' The browse the network to the folder that you want mapped and it's done.

Do you know if the latest version of samba has got extra functions so you can set permissions on the folders whithin an i-bay? or is that an NTFS function only?

This only happens (for me at least) with the Primary share. All my Ibays do not display any of the three directories (as they map directly to the "files" dir. Are you sure you've set them up OK?

Yes, it appears that the permissions are able to be set on individual folders beneath the share (or iBay)
