What's the link these days between Mitel and the SME?

Is Mitel using the SME open source code, or are we using some of theirs?

What is the name of the Mitel product?


It was my understanding previously, that you chose the Mitel version if you wanted automated security updates and support, as automated patching is not in the SME.


Is this still true?

You can still purchase the fully supported commercial version from Mitel, see above link.

The SME Server 7.0alpha release is based on the latest released Mitel code, so "a lot of theirs" would be more correct. Mitel staff continue to release a lot of code, and accept and fold in patches. Mitel is also the Copyright holder for most of the perl code in the SME Server.

Mitel is an "upstream" vendor, in a similar vein to CentOS and as such, we try to stay as closely aligned to their releases as possible. Some of the Mitel folks have been heavily involved in getting 7.0alpha to its current state.
