Topic: High pitched noise while doing backup

I have an older machine (AMD K62-450 - remember those?).  It's running an SME Server mainly for file storage, print server, and a small website.  Recently, I attempted to backup to desktop using the server-manager backup/restore utility.  After about 230 MB, I heard a high pitched noise coming from the server (speaker?) and the backup seemed to slow down.  Everything seems to be fine otherwise.  Any ideas?

The noise is very likly to be one of your Fans which needs changing possibly one on the video card, however just stop each in turn till you discover which is the problem.

It is "overheating"
The older AMD is famous for that, had lots do it, if it is a high pitch "alarm" sound that will be what it is.

Close the door to the room or turn up the music to drown out the noise.

For anyone who sees this discussion and has a similar problem, here's the solution.  It was indeed overheating, but the problem was merely years of dust collected around the fan/heatsink.  A quick removal and I huffed, and I puffed, and I blew the dust away ... and voila!  No more high pitched noise.
