Help - install postfix on SME 6.0.1
« on: June 21, 2005, 11:44:46 AM »
I need a help as to how to install POSTFIX on SME server  or :-D  how to migrate postfix to qmail, as my requirment for mail server is tested on postfix, but i don't want to loose the SME server front end GUI.
I have search the forum for it. I also got the help & patch for postfix, but is it tested for production ?
or is there a simpler way to install  postfix & get the same GUI as for qmail ;-)

Thanks in advance

Dear All,
I have successfully installed Postfix on SME server 6.0.1 using  :-D
http://packages.nass.com.au/e-smith/postfix/2.1-for-6.0/

I have also switch the   MTA from Qmail to Postfix. I have configure the POstfix main.cf file , but when a client sends  a message the server accepts it, but does not deliver it to intended recipient even though it is addressed to self. :-o  The messages goes out of outbox. Secondly no logs are generated to trouble shoot it.
I know that postfix does not have SME server GUI, i can still use the other features of it.
Could someone please help with the proper installation of postfix on SME server. i have seen a lot of activity going in devinfo, but not yet implemented.
My suggestion would be at the time of installation it should ask which MTA should we install & teh rest remains the same.

Thanks & regards
Piyush Jani

How did you story finish?

I am also interested in using Postfix, but I would
like to use it as an smtp proxy in front of Qmail,
because I have a licensed email antivirus that only works with Postfix.

As you have found, installing Postfix is the easy part. The hard part is ensuring that all of the existing configuration from the qmail installation is emulated under Postfix. As far as I am aware, nobody has yet done that work. I don't doubt that it can be done, but it hasn't been a priority.
