My own domain and DNS
« on: November 12, 2001, 11:20:31 AM »
I'm using e-smith 5 and have some questions about DNS. I have registered my own domain name at ireg (.com) and in iregs config I can only forward web to my ip. How do I set up ftp.mydomain and my mail. I do not wish to recive my mail trough iregs forwarding mail. I want to use my server. I've read that I have to configure my own nameservers but do I really have to do this on two servers? Does any company provide direct fowwarding to my server ip?

http://www.tzo.com

The other alternative is to run your own name server and find someone else that runs one, and work a deal to be secondary name servers for eachother.

You should be able to get what you want by using one of the following:

active-domain.com
godaddy.com
olm.com

I've used the first two and prefer active-domain. A coworker is using OLM and is happy, but is considering switching to one of the other two. Both of us were formerly using Network Solutions -- they could do just about anything for the right money and if you have three forevers to wait for them to get it done, and another three or four for them to get it done right.

I use http://www.worldwidedns.net
They charge $10 per year for a single domain, but changes are done via a web based console.

You could bind a second ip to your ethernet adapter and register it as both primary and secondary DNS.
